It stinks in Office(of malice)

In Office, I see constant layoffs, it's mostly in the evening every random quarter, manager calls an employee, says you are fired.

The same employee you were playing, eating food during lunch, playing badminton is removed but you don't give a shit. People have so many tasks to do , that they are not bothered .

As if people's lives are trivial. What's more strange is the manager removing people from the WhatsApp group on same day , not helping him find a job, you could just send a link for help.

How free can an engineering manager be that he removes layoffed people from WhatsApp group? Your whole existence is shameful and disturbing

Untill we accept that blue collar work is not demeaning, we have to put up with the insuta from MNC managers.

Every family who can afford pvt school and coaching classes for their kids keep telling them joining an IT company and earning a handsome salary is the way to life. Untill this changes, that won't change

And also start paying blue collar workers dignified wages.

Yes right. That's what I follow defaulted. Not that i don't want a meaningful connection, but so very many people actually don't want it . Convenience works out better.

Companies are built, run, and invested in by VCs/retail for profits.

Employees are hired for to generate profit and then laid off to retain those profits.

If you want loyalty to be rewarded, join a early stage startup (<10 employees) and stay there till you make big. Most probably you will not be laid off if you have contributed and it actually becomes a big company.

If you want to be comfortable, try being uncomfortable by making sure the way you work is irreplaceable in a bigger corporate structure. Or else just jump ship whenever you get a chance making sure you spend ~2 years at one place.

If you don’t want to startup/ built a big business or do a job for long, then ensure you are working initial years of your life to make multiple revenue streams that sustain.

If you aren’t following any of the above, you will always be replaceable either by a better person for that job, or maybe AI.

I understand but looking at the market the thing you said about startup. Think it of as a normal middle class person coming out of college joining start for what 2-3LPA at max. Then they will make you work like they are paying you 20-30LPA or even more.

The most dramatic situation comes when the product is built and everything is out there and if you were the core dev no market connection they will slowly lay you off and will offer a buy back of esops that they never planned to give you that to in the best case scenario.

Second point of having multiple streams I get it where you are coming from and I completely agree with you, but I honestly won’t be able to do it even if I had the option to go back in time because fresh out of college away from home getting the salary your parents are not asking for where it is going or might have to send home some money so you are left with something only and if you don’t spend that money and enjoy a bit then what’s the point of your 22 year hard work.

Right now you study and generate income source. By the time your package increase or in simple terms you are able to have a good amount from all the sources in the end of the month you have already reached around 25-26 and mature enough to not waste money on stupid things that you would have in 23-24 and after 1-2 year you get married. You are now hardworking for your wife for vacations that you don’t wanna go as a man we sometimes love to have a normal chai instead of going a fancy restaurant with a worry that a big cheque is gonna come. And after sometime kid comes and now you are working for kid.

Then die. That’s a normal corporate life in a nutshell

Yes, the defacto modus of life should not be corporate jobs. Us Indians with a little education have forgotten to take to another kind of skillset or job. We only know this, less risky? Earns well, then suffers the consequences of it as well.

Guys the era has come where a plumbers job, an electrician’s job, driver’s job, and in fact a janitor’s job are far more secured than the so called “IT” that we were all craving about. God only save Indian IT folks

People in corporate try to win against each rather than individual growth. People don’t just feel happy because they are successful; they feel happy because others are less successful.

I was laid off too but I had few offers in hand before it happened. I did jot feel heat ... so be prepared by analyzing company situations. Managers attitude towards you. The good manager will take very good care of u. Bad managers gives action items and track your failures.

No one cares for others in this world, you need to think and act for yourself. The world is full of uncertainty. You should have a smell of what's cooking inside. Hope you made yourself prepared for this situation.
