In India, your expertise and seniority level is decided by your current compensation.

Just say we need cheap labour. Btw guess how much I asked for.

I saw a Staff Developer role and the recruiter's budget was 16lpa. They were looking for 10+ years of experience for that role.

Yeah these are mainly Indian companies & So called big 4 companies, dunno why the culture is very bad in most of the Indian companies in general.

Sometimes they do shameless things and ask shameless questions. Professionalism is not in their dictionary.

SquishyCupcake
SquishyCupcake

Yeah man. Also interesting is how HRs stick to standard budget when employee is asking for higher salary but if he is underpaid in previous company they would give nominal hike on that even if they had higher budget.

PeppyDonut
PeppyDonut

Exactly! If they can’t value candidates how they expect the world to value their business. Fir kisi podcast mei jakar bolenge ki “Indian consumers don’t want to pay for anything”.

A good company(very high paying) was recently hiring for a senior software developer role but their budget was lesser than what I currently make.

And the recruiter told me, it's fine they have a very limited budget with no stocks and bonuses. And other candidates are willing to join the company for that pay. I said no, but I know that this company used to pay ~40% more in CTC couple of years ago.

PeppyDonut
PeppyDonut

Yes that’s where they exploit you “other candidates are willing to join for less”.

TBH, it might feel unfair, but the industry standards are determined by what the market is ready to accept.

And my personal thoughts are that this is a market correction, a lot of folks were getting overpaid because of VC money. The appropriate pay depends upon how much a company is able to pay while still being able to make money.

Bhai WITCH companies mein toh abhi bhi they are paying 8 yrs ko 8 to 10lpa. I have given few interviews and no one wants to give according to market standards. In fact they are lowering their budget even the big 4. One big 4 hr told me they can't even give a 10% hike also on offer. Everyone wants to exploit and keep us underpaid, they don't even want to give according to the market standards also.Jab ki I was not even asking for more money just wanted to get to the market standards. That's why candidates have to keep interviewing so that atleast they are not underpaid. No one likes to give 100s of interviews it's really a energy draining task but have to do just to get to the market standards 😔.

Bhai service company to kabhi nhi degi. Ye to hindustan ki sachai hai…Yahi WITCH companies US mei 125k+ salary deti hai…to agar pirchase parity ko consider kiya jaye to Indians ko inhe minimum 30Lakhs pay karna chahiye… There are no regulations in our country. No one protects the rights of white collar workers. It’s shameful.

PeppyNarwhal

Sahi kaha bro but sirf WITCH nhi l, recently mene Big4 mein bhi Diya wo bhi aise hi exploit karne ki kosis kar rhe hai. Jab k mene bahut bola unhe k atleast market k hisaab se toh do but still they said k isse jada nhi milega. Tcs join karke galti se underpaid reh gya ab sab companies underpaid hi rakhna chahti hai, even though they have budget.

Off course it will be based on your last compensation . Will you take a pay cut to work in the same grade as a 9yr experience guy.

PeppyDonut
PeppyDonut

Yeah why not. A paycut is better than getting nothing.

SleepyNugget
SleepyNugget

I agree with you . But why will someone take a paycut 1. Getting laid off and needs job 2. Getting fired because of poor skill and no one will offer the same amount for the skill he/she has 3. Relocation to a low cost city. 4. Wants to chill . I am assuming you are not in any of the 4 above categories
