I'm miserable working the night shift.

Honestly, I thought the added allowance would be worth it.

But I honestly hate the work I'm doing and everything about the office in general.

I miss chilling out in the evenings after work like a normal person, I miss just being normal and not having weird sleep patterns.

I cry or am on the verge of crying almost everyday. At this point, I just want to quit and take a few weeks to feel normal and happier?

Of course, given the market, this would be a very stupid decision. Unfortunately all the jobs I'm getting are usually a pay cut.

I don't get how people, with MBAs, families and an active social life do this, honestly. I have neither and I freaking hate it.

Would quitting be actually worth it for my overall health?

If you have a financial back up of 5-6 months then my friend, please take a break. Go somewhere in woods and relax. Cuz I've been in mixed shifts all my 5 years of IT life and I'm dead inside. I don't go out, I don't date, I don't have friends, all these are signs that I'm burnt out too. So an advice from my side, take that break. Cuz your gonna regret if it turns out depression in few more months.

For the time being you get something else, try and adjust to it.

Have some morning activities you could never do otherwise. I go to the gym, go to cafes for brunch once a week. Or to the mall/early morning shows once a month. Sometimes I go on a morning drive on my bike early morning when it's still cooler.

Try getting a 2hr afternoon nap just before your shift starts. Will work wonders on your mindset.

On point. Hit the gym/exercise in the mornings. Take afternoon naps. Been there. It definitely helps.

When do you sleep? Mornings don't feel feasible as so sleepy as soon as my shift is over. I do strength train almost everyday as soon as I wake up. I'm not really stepping out of the house because it's just too unbearable in the afternoons.

What's your exact timings? I have worked in night shift starting 11 pm till 7 am. The management calls it the Graveyard Shift.

I am in night shift from past 4 years. I am very comfortable in it. I usually wake up at 2 PM in afternoon and I have whole evening with me to go out and have dinner outside.

Afternoon sucks ! 2 to 11 PM ,I used to scroll mobile screen after 11 PM shift ,Sleeping at 1_2 AM in the night and then wake up late in the morning at 10_11 AM . Then after taking bath and all it was soon 2PM and shift starts

It feels like never ending stuff. You do shift, sleep, wake up and then the shift starts again

It's never ending loop.

I hated afternoon shift.

I had the afternoon shift before this. But I hated it too. I guess I would love to work like normal timings?

I am also following the same, doing night shift currently, but it is a rotational job sometime I have to do UK Shift also.

Now I just promised to myself, whenever I will get new job, will not take or choose night shift or rotional job just because of money or allowance

I have a remote offer where I have to work from 8 to 12 in the night and the remaining 4 hours are flexible. Will my life also be miserable? How can I make the best of it?

Quitting design after 9 years with no backup

After nine years, I’ve finally decided to quit my job without any backup plan. I was stuck in a career that didn’t suit my vibe. The last four years were especially brutal, 10 hour days, six days a week. I missed important family functio...
