I feel like I am losing my mind

Last month has been really tough for me. I always feel overwhelmed because of work and just break down anytime . I start panicking and get anxiety attacks, I don’t know what to do

I recently switched and suddenly my manager left so all the pressure and the team management came to me . I directly report to product head and he doesn’t have time to spare. Nobody has questioned or given any negative feedback but I feel I am not able to do a good job or even justify my bandwidth. I get scared while taking decisions and also that since I am not able to do meaningful work here I can’t even switch considering this switch almost took me a year when I had really good work to show on my previous company.

I have started yoga (intermittently) and also therapy but nothing seems to help.

Has anyone faced anything similar ? How do you manage ?

Hey! That “losing my mind” feeling when everything’s overwhelming - your nervous system is basically stuck in fight-or-flight mode and can’t find the off switch.

Press Pause - those panic attacks are your body saying “this is too much stress at once.” You’re not broken, you’re overloaded.

Here’s what’s happening: new job + sudden responsibility increase + imposter syndrome = anxiety spiral. Your brain is catastrophizing because it feels unsafe.

Quick hacks for the panic attacks:

  • 4-7-8 breathing (breathe in 4, hold 7, out 8)
  • Cold water on wrists when anxiety hits
  • Name 5 things you can see around you

That “can’t justify my bandwidth” feeling? Classic imposter syndrome. You switched jobs, got more responsibility - of course there’s a learning curve! Nobody expects perfection immediately.

The yoga/therapy not helping yet is normal - your nervous system needs consistent practice, not quick fixes. Give it 6-8 weeks minimum.

Also, ask your product head for a quick check-in. Most managers prefer clarity over silence when someone’s struggling.

You’re not losing it - you’re adjusting under pressure

Here are my tips I followed when in a similar situation.

  • stay calm and be an observer of what's happening
  • identify the source of your stress and work on it.
  • nothing falls apart if things go little jaggy
  • meditate and breathe well
  • think only on those what you can control and mend

Thanks . I am trying. But in the back of my mind this always lingers . Hopefully it will pass soon.
