How to manage a egoistic manager?
For background I'm a Sr. Staff Engineer at a unicorn crm saas company. Competitor to Hubspot/Salesforce but for marketing agencies. I have 10+ years of experience including 3 years as a founder where my current company was my customers.
My manager (director of AI) has about 6 years of experience and has never managed someone opinionated, as it seems. I have been questioning his decision for 4-5 months now, openly within the team and 1:1s as well. I started it during 1:1s but then he stopped having 1:1s with me. So, I had no choice but to go to the founder/CTO. Since then he told me I'm free to find another manager inside the company.
Also, his decisions and projects he's given have yielded $0 to the company. I was never aligned to work on a shiny computer use project because some influencer on YouTube used that to create a funnel (website) on our platform (imagine building computer use application to build a website on webflow or vix) or other shitty shiny ideas he saw on his linkedin feed every time a new model launched.
He himself is a platform engineer and cannot even answer what backprop is.
My issue is I'm done with this god forsaken company. I would want to quit but I have significant esops vesting in 3 months. Now I've given an impossible project with impossible deadlines (also every SDE 1, SDE 2 and SDE 3 in my team have been repurposed). This project is a reason for him to fire me, because until now he doesn't have it.
How do I actually spend 90 days here being sidelined and being fired because I'm supposed to do 4 engineers plus me worth of work until October 12th? Should I once again reach out to CTO?
One thing I've started is creating a list of everything I'm shipping. Tagging CTO on slack every time I post a release note to ensure its not a direct fire but a pip before that.
Another question is can you esops vest while on pip? If not, I might as well resign.

Being sidelined and on the queue to being fired the moment my manager can show I am not delivering*

Make peace, so that you survive 90 days. Find something really incriminating against him and drop it with CTO before leaving.

My advice-hang in there for another 3 months, get your espos vested and then quit. You have come so far, you just need to cross that last hurdle
