How to have career conversations with my manager?
Hi folks, The role I'm in is something I don't want to do for a long time, so naturally, I need to have "career" conversations regularly with my manager to look for a switch either internally or externally.
I'm not sure how to proceed. Most of our 1:1 have a set agenda - business, metrics etc. How do I sneak in that career conversation without sounding weird or off place? I can't wait for my manager to take it up tbh
Drop in your advice. Thanks!

Oxymoronic Question: Your typical current manager exists to squeeze out everything that you can give in your current profile and team. Least bothered with what you want to achieve, unless it has something to do with their agenda.
At the end of day, you have to own your career, and go about building it quietly.
You should approach your manager directly, requesting a dedicated 1:1 for career development discussions. Prepare specific questions about internal opportunities, skill development, and feedback to guide the conversation constructively.

If you have an intention to switch, make sure that the manager doesn't have an inclination to promote you. Otherwise, he will act all supportive. You will keep looking for a switch and that promotion will.be taken away from you.
If you have agenda for our 1:1, let him know beforehand that you would need 10 minutes to discuss something with him.
Don't hesitate to sneak in career conversations. You own your career. If you don't ask for it, you will not get it.
