how to break into machine learning as a career path

I've been working for over 13 years professionally in mobile development. I've been an IC in Android for about 10 years and recently into people management. What's bothering me is that i see little to no progress, and more concerning is the job now is looking less attractive in terms of challenges.

I've been trying to explore an alternate career path, and machine learning is what i feel I'll probably enjoy working on. However, am stuck and i want to move forward, but what am not able to wrap my head around is how to get into machine learning as an IC.

Which resources to learn from? How do setup my resume to reflects my work in ML? How can i contribute to ML outside of my org?

Has anyone made a transition? if so, what path did you take? Any help and advice would be great.
