How do you guys store photos/files online
How do you guys store photos online? To claim free 15 GB storage, I have created 12 Gmail accounts till now 😂. But it's becoming very cumbersome to manage. I want to buy Google One, but they have a 200 GB plan(which is insufficient for me) and then, directly, the 2TB plan, which is way too much(Dirty Business tactics by Google). What do you guys suggest?

Get a Pixel phone and use unlimited storage

Not true, pixel doesn't give unlimited storage anymore

Exactly @LateMango95 It was only till P3

Bought Sandisk SSD 1TB for 5K - pretty fast and reliable. Why do you want to have everything on cloud? It's anyways not safe - even iCloud.

I want to store copies of photos on cloud, mainly for quick search and retrieval

This has issues in case SSD goes corrupt you lose all your photos.

HPE ML 350 GEN 9 20TB SAS SSD,24core CPUs,256GB RAM ,used 2060 super for transcoding,Self hosted nextcloud, hhosted behind a reverse proxy and a cheap domain from NO IP. the whole family can store photos videos(all in full quality) ,do video calls ,normal calls, Electricity bills average 1 ish Euro a day. This can be done even on a cheap and low power intel Nuc

Absolutely fucking best. Would love to know more (though you told most of it already).
It's my dream to host my own server and this just sounded like a dream come true moment

Hehe indeed it was a dream for me for a long long time, Luckily one startup company was getting rid of a lot of there on prem equipments so i got my hands on this one.
It was a bit hard to find budget drives for storages it took nearly 6 months to collect all the storages drives but its all worth it no nonsense of reduced quality photos and videos .
Also i am completely aware what is happening what is happening and how it is happening with my data (if u know u know ,after working a certain amount of time with data and then u become a girl daddy,f****ing hell it scary )

I got free timesprime membership for 3-4 years. Now TP membership gives 6 months free Google one storage upto 100gb. So every 6 months I change the family manager account and keep using the same Google one for free witb 100gb storage😊

I also have times prime. But you can only use on on non-Google one accounts. Can you please elaborate on this family manager thing?

Yes you are right. So what I do is, since old account already used Google one code once, I can't use again. Hence I create a new Gmail account, use that new unused Google one code over there and that gives me free membership. Now my old Gmail account whose hoor one membership got expired, I add that as a family member to my new Gmail I'd which has Google one membership. Basically I make the new Gmail account with Google one as a parent/ admin/ Google family manager and hence my old account whose Google one membership got expired can be added as a family member.

Edit: For those who self host a server, how do you search photos by face/location? And what about the ability to access the photos on your mobile phones?

Probably metadata tags

Photoprism

But it's cheap why would you go through all this and why not just pay?

My Poco f1 does the job
Bootloader Unlocked --> installed custom rom (my fav Pixel experience) and boom you have unlimited google photos Best part - Full Original backup ,no compression of photos or video

Self storage is a recipe for disaster. The one immutable law of storage is that disks fail. Folks saying I bought 1 TB of SSD from Amazon and it's so cheap compared to online storage don't know what they are talking about till they encounter a disk failure.
NAS with RAID can improve reliability but is nowhere close to storing on the cloud. One bout of high/low voltage is enough to fry them.
TLDR: Just pay for the online storage. If it's too expensive for you, move some data that you mostly don't need into cold storage like AWS glacier for long term archival
