How do I deal with a 'corporate bully'?

I am in an org which is fairly new and people come and go. This means that at times, managers are newer to the org than their reports. So they believe the star ones at face value.

Now, my manager is a relatively chill person and at least someone who believes in teaching juniors a thing or two (proactively). He is ruthless when it comes to work, sure, but he is 'polished' in his ways.

My senior, on the other hand (who reports to the same manager), is what I would call a really really clever guy. He is a hard worker and an overachiever, but in the process, I believe that he has become a little selfish. He doesn't believe much in teaching things to anyone. He only believes in "getting stuff done" (and being seen) because, you know, that is good for optics. He casually lies to stakeholders, very cleverly so, and in the end if things ever go south, candidly dumps all the blame on anyone that isn't him. He shows no remorse when I have literally been told in confidence by a colleague that they have a personal agenda against him now just because of his behaviour on one project.

No one seems to notice or has been able to notice this behaviour because in our org, reviews from a lower level colleague are only taken for namesake. They don't affect appraisals.

I too struggle quite a lot with him but I always try to tell myself that there is still plenty to learn, which is true, however he isn't imparting much of that to me. He mostly responds with "I'm busy" or "I'll get this done" when I ask for help (he then gets it done) or when my work is not at par with his expectations (which are 50% of the time objective and 50% subjective i.e. even our boss might side with me), instead of telling me ways to improve, he just tells me that it is not done rightly and proceeds to make changes with a rant rather than a lesson. He doesn't insult me in front of anyone though.

Whenever I've tried to connect with him over a few informal things other than work after work, he quickly ends the conversation and leaves.

So how should I deal with such a person who is a bully to all his juniors, a big suck up to all his seniors, but potentially a mentor for me?
