Secret Santa
Corporate employees enjoy Secret Santa, feeling valued by colleagues. But freelancers and self-employed often miss out. This season, be their Santa acknowledge their efforts and make them feel special!
As we wrap up the year, social media is buzzing with posts about Christmas gifts, holiday hampers, bonuses, and thoughtful gestures from orgs. Employees sharing their joy, tagging their companies, brimming with gratitude. It’s heartwarming.
Pause right there for a moment - What about those who didn’t get anything? No gift, no thank-you note, not even a kind word.
Was it because of a tight budget? Fair enough, not every organization can splurge. Was it the company’s intent that was hazy? Perhaps. Or was it simply the absence of leaders who cared enough to make an effort?
Let me ask you this: Is sending gifts or granting a holiday the bare minimum? And if that's the bare minimum you go for - who are you really taking for granted? The people? The system? The expectation? Wasn’t the base line - about making your people feel seen, valued, and heard? If budgets were a problem, could leaders not have made a personal call to each employee? Just to say - "Hey! We see you. We appreciate you. Thank you for showing up. And you deserve this break.. go spend time with family and friends...".
The way I see it - It's not the price tag of the gesture - it's the sincerity of it. If your team ends this year feeling invisible, forgotten, or unvalued, what are you even leading?
Sure go on and give me an excuse - Too many people/ How do we manage at scale/ Half of them wont receive calls/ I dont think they want to get a call from their workplace at this tme of the year/ yada yada.. All is see is you lack intent. All of these are optics problems. Nothing more. A whatsapp msg would have worked, a personal video could have worked, anything could have worked - but sure why would you right??
This isn't about guilt-tripping; maybe it is. Take it however way you like it. My point is - reflect on what really matters. If your team feels neglected this season, the failure isn't in the lack of a gift. It's in the lack of heart. PERIOD.
And for every employee out there reading this who felt overlooked this year - please know, your work mattered. You mattered. Don’t let silence make you question your worth.
Dude, your profile reads HR. You are responsible for defining these policies
The message is for the wider audience. DUDE

And yes I am being explicit - the Recruiters should not do it. THE HIRING MANAGERS should do it.

The way I think of it - If you had the budget for a counteroffer - why wasn’t it offered before they resigned or when they asked for a raise. Hell - why wasn’t it offered to begin with when they were joining?
