Percentages are arbitrary. Hikes depend on a lot of factors including one’s base package. The only thing that should matter are:

  1. Are you in a good salary bracket w.r.t the market
  2. Is your hike beating inflation

  1. How do you know what the market pays? There’s internal benchmarking called compa ratio. HR teams in Compensation department do external benchmarking, but normally employees don’t. All they get are sources like LinkedIN, glass door which are not accurate IMHO.
