Have you purchased individual health policy along with corporate policy ? If yes, do you feel like wasting money !

Spending money on individual health policy (family floater) when you already have corporate policy, is it a good idea ?

Most google searches will say Yes, but want to know your experience.

You will never know when issues might pop up. You will not be covered when you are between jobs or if you get laid off abruptly.

Always have a separate health insurance plan (individual or family floater) apart from your corporate plan.
Apart from the reason stated in the first line, when you buy a new policy, there will be a waiting period for certain diseases or some pre existing condition.
So it's better you buy one right away.

And also remember, always use your corporate health insurance for claims first. This will allow you to accumulate no claim bonus in your personal/ family floater policy.

Well I feel, instead of buying another health insurance when you are already under corporate one isn’t useful. Instead one can go for a top up plan on the same corporate health cover.

Personal health insurance is a must. No arguments there. First, health insurance coverage, illness cover increases over the years. So, you cannot expect your health insurance to give you all the benefits from day 1. Once your health insurance is old, your benefits increases . Corporate insurance is only valid till you have jobs and usually the cover is less in corporate. You already have a rebate on medical insurance and expenditure, so it's not a waste of money anyway

I was hospitalized when I was 23. Employer's insurance covered most of it. But now I can't get a cover of more than 5L, for personal insurance, because of the complications from when I was hospitalized. If I had personal insurance from before being hospitalized, I wouldn't have to stash medical-emergency funds.

Get it while you can. Personal insurance is a must.

Take insurance plan like HDFC optima which increases your claim amount by 50 pcnt Every year on which you make no claim..then you won't feel like waste at least for first 2 years

You may switch jobs, in between that period of quitting one and joining other, u are exposed to risk.

In case u switch, u never know what the new employer's policy covers and doesnt cover, what if it doesnt cover what u want?

The corporate may change the benefits at any point in time. This may lead u to take a health plan, if this happens when u are aged 35+, it will cost u alot.

Better have a personal plan.

If you can afford buy your own too. Saying this with experience. Corporate insurance is not enough for serious issues.
