Google DeepMind Co-founder Wins Nobel Chemistry Prize
- British computer scientist Professor Demis Hassabis has won a share of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his revolutionary work on proteins.
- Hassabis co-founded the AI company that became Google DeepMind.
- He and Professor John Jumper used AI to predict the structures of almost all known proteins, creating a tool called AlphaFold2.
- The Nobel committee called AlphaFold2 a 'complete revolution', and it's now used for 200 million proteins worldwide.
- The other half of the prize was awarded to Professor David Baker for building new proteins.
