Fresher looking to venture into consulting

Hi! I'm graduating this semester and would want to get some work ex before pursuing my masters. Should I go for the BCG Training Program? It's an 18 month paid stint in their GS office. Would it increase my chances of getting placed as an associate at BCG after those 18 months? Or is working as a consultant/ analyst in a (much) smaller firm better?
