Folks who are working in remote jobs, can you explain in detail how you got it and how your experience has been

Basically, I am interested in working for remote job. I have found far less resources and majorly all of them mention about open source contribution.

Anyone here who has gotten a remote job, can you explain the following-

  1. How the experience has been?
  2. How you got that job?
  3. What are the pros/cons?
  4. Would you recommend people to take it?

  1. Pretty good, no fixed timings (apart from daily meetings) so I can go play in the middle! Prefer my large screen desktop setup anyways over a laptop. Sundown is shutdown haha.

  2. Yes, a bit of open source contribution showoff, personal portfolio, few random tech blog articles. Found on angellist/wellfound (¾ places I’ve worked, applied there)

  3. Pros: Apart from the experience and WLB, could move away from busy city life to a society in the outskirts with all amenities, setup zones inside house — room work desk is separate from living room TV/PS area, etc. No commute is definitely a pro, can spend that time cooking healthy instead (theoretically at least, physically still a potato, getting there tho). Get bored in meetings? Turn that camera off and play a game!

Cons: maybe a bit bored sometimes, but otherwise, none!

  1. Definitely!

I have a remote job, I've been working remotely since 2021 (only did internships in office before that, I've only worked remotely full time) Can't type a detailed answer right now, someone remind me to come back and answer this tomorrow

I work remotely. I got lucky in finding a good opportunity I would say, as I have seen that very few companies have a remote first policy. Most of the companies that reach out on LinkedIn have a hybrid policy. Personally I kept applying by filtering remote roles on LinkedIn. Also few people reached out because of my experience. I had to keep hope and reject some good opportunities that were not remote. But, I have seen a few job boards recently which I have not tried. Google job boards would be a good place to look as well.
