So if buy an iPhone (random example) we will pay more and not the govt. How is this a lesson for the govt?

Lol, who is blaming whom on vote bank politics of India. We'll in India, taxes are not uniform. Diverse people needs to be imposed with diverse taxation. That would decrease tax burden on already burdened. People shouldn't be allowed to escape from uniformity. Also govt must give benefits to legals and high payers. No benefits to high payers in return.
