Difference between top tier company engineers and others

Hi everyone, This question is for everyone, irrespective of the City, I want to know the real difference between an engineer working at Amazon Google vs some other non prestigious considered companies. I know I can achieve it but I sometimes like I’m failing in the last 10% of the game and since our engineer work like the libraries, we use, are built by communities. I would really love if someone can give and honest answer and help the fellow mates. Thanks for the help

The difference is how much effort they've put into preparing for cracking Leetcode interview rounds šŸ˜„

Times have changed. Now service based companies like infosys, wipro , birlasoft offer more salary and job security for experienced guys, 3-4yoe are making 25lpa in these service based companies with good wlb..meanwhile most layoff if u observe are from product based companies and they have toxic culture and put in pip and do layoff they are inside your holes all the time, and to get into pbc u prepare DSA system design and what not but in service based just focus on your skill and u get the job no gatekeeping. Produce based companies now outsource to service based so they don't have to hire permanent people. For product based if their produce fails it's layoff but in service based there are infinite product and projects.

3-4 yoe in faang are making 40-50 lpa

That sounds unrealistic. I personally have seen Infosys and TCS haggling over a 24lpa ectc for an 8 year experienced guy and that is very recently like maybe 4 or 5 months back.

I'd heavily recommend joining a company with a good HR culture rather than the ones who give all power to the managers.

Except Amazon, I don't think it's happening across many faang like companies. Wlb is still decent

I have the hair loss and stress thing going for me. Need to work on the other things now

The difference is in hardwork and dedication! Amount of efforts they put towards logical thinking and system design is tremendous compared to other folks. I myself gave interviews for FAANG companies and took interview for my company. I can see the difference of level.

  2. Freedom to bring innovative solutions
  3. Tech challenges are so unique that one needs to invent new technology to solve them.
  4. Fear of getting fired anytime šŸ˜”

FAANG engineers have fangs. That's all.

I have met a staff engineer and they earn a massive amount in a year and a service industry guy cannot even imagine to earn that in 10-15 years

Salary is generally 10x of experience. Others have 3-5x max rite now
