Recruiter: Candidate has declined the offer Founder: Why? Recruiter: He has a 48L offer, but we can't go beyond 30L. Founder: No problem. Just add everything that's ever cost us money since the candidate was born Base : 30L 1.44L Employer PF 48K Gratuity (if he survives 4.8 financial years) 25K Mediclaim (our premium is 2K but shhh) 18K Internet allowance (he didn’t ask, but we insisted) 12K Office snacks (he’s remote, but still — “culture”) 9K Diwali gift (1.5K actual value, 7.5K emotional markup) 15K Upskilling budget (expires before onboarding) 5K LinkedIn Premium (career growth, obviously) 4L Variable Pay (like he will get it) 5L in ESOPs (valuation by hope and fairy dust) Sodexo card bhi de do (they never use it but it feels rich) ESOPs (no strike price, no liquidity, no clarity - perfect for dreams)

CFO,HR impressed. Candidate confused.

So again -Dear candidates, Next time you get an offer letter, read the damn thing. Line. By. Line. What's fixed. What's real. What's fictional. What's deferred. What's performance-linked. What's basically poopity poop with oregano and chilly flakes. Zoom in. Highlight. Ask.

Every time you say yes without reading it - someone somewhere gets promoted for lying legally. Wo kehte hain naa.. sometimes you're not underpaid - you're just over-promised.

PS: At will feel free to interchange CFO,HR and Founder. No one cares.

Let’s face it, everyone does this but there’s always fixed pay mentioned and all the other part mentioned separately!
