I don’t know your year or your interests; I assume you are pursuing Computer Science, so general advice: You might not use a GPU, or not see the need for one in near future. However, having one means should the need arise for a gpu-offered compute, you aren’t restricted by the lack of one.

Go for a moderate gaming laptop with 8/16GB DDR5 RAM (~5000mhz is fine; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise), Ryzen 5 (5600 above is preferable), 512 gb ssd is good and a 4 gb gpu(Avoid 16XX series. This will easily last you 4 years, if taken care right.

For instance, few good options around your budget: https://amzn.in/d/04H5RISi https://amzn.in/d/0cFlRl9x

Asus/HP/Lenovo/MSI are all good options. Do explore and negotiate in local market.

Ps. Avoid Acer devices.

Just saw you’re not a fan of MSI. Go for ASUS/HP/Lenovo. Have had good experience with these.

I understand but if you can stretch, kindly do. In the long run, a MacBook tends to be of more value to the customer than any other laptop. (Expect for tasks that require GPU intensive work, which I'm sure you would rarely need during your college life)

If your end goal is gaming then sure go with a windows but otherwise if you can stretch, please do!

In this budget you can get msi laptop ryzen 7 with 16gb ram no dedicated gpu.

Take a look at this MSI Modern 14 AMD Ryzen 7 Octa Core 7730U - (16 GB/512 GB SSD/Windows 11 Home) Modern 14 C7M-218IN Thin and Light Laptop on Flipkart https://dl.flipkart.com/s/Rg7rVnNNNN

If you are from computer science, don't go for Mac. If you were working, I'd say Mac without a doubt, but as a student, I'd suggest to stick to Linux and understand Linux/Unix. There's a loooot to learn.

GPU is good for some casual gaming and video rendering, but for all your machine learning assignments and heavy workloads, you can depend on either your computer labs or Colab from Google.

At least 16 gb ram needed, and 256 GB SSD. 16 GB RAM is a must.

Again, 256 GB SSD if you aren't storing heavy games and movie/songs are mostly streamed. But if not, then maybe a larger disk.

I have had a dell and it had the most shit quality imaginable. If you plan to buy a dell, the least you could do is find long term reviews and check the laptop out yourself in a store

16GB ram minimum in 2024, windows with chrome alone will eat half of it.
