Bored with MBB - suggestions invited

My professional background - I am a CA, (single digit ranker across all levels), joined BCG straight post CA, spent 3 yrs here, now a consultant here.

My current state - while I earlier felt consulting would be my long term profession, now I think this life is unsustainable. While good work is happening around me and I have been part of pretty good projects, I feel this nature of work does not excite me anymore. I seldom feel enthu about new work or doing something on the sidelines while I do have some pretty good ideas to work on. The work here even though it is good does not excite me at an intellectual level. Hence, I am looking outside - I feel I am more of a product person and hence want to look at product roles.

But, considering my non tech background, I feel it won't be easy for me to get into product roles easily.

Hence, looking for inspiration on how I should think about moving forward

Ask from the group -

  1. Any reactions / reflections to my tale on what and how should I think ahead

  2. Anyone who would love to chat their story with me - I would love to know your pov (esp. on moving out of the consulting side)

Hi @Gossipbooster1
It would be really helpful if you could share some tips on preparing for applying to BCG. Thanks in advance

I think this is common to feel, not just with consulting but in every work field because no matter how much the JD state oH tHiS iS a dYnAmIc rOLe, you will mostly work on a similar type of job. The inherent nature of mind is to learn about new things and try to figure out everything. But all of this kick goes away with time.

I would suggest you to reflect upon what truly excites you, because imo the talks about Product field has become a hot topic in the past 3-5 years. Sometimes a week long break will have you love your job again. And if the job is truly very easy for you to handle, try building some web apps in the free time, in this AI age there's a lot of resources to code without actually coding. Web app projects will give you a lot more knowledge about product development and management. If things starts to click then those projects will be a help to your profile for making a switch.
