Best Credit Card For International Travel

I am planning my first international trip. I am going to Japan. Looking for credit cards with zero forex charges.

Any recommendations? I see that there are a lot of options like Niyo Global, Fi, Jupiter, IDFC WOW.

I value customer support as it’s my first trip and I don’t want problems if there are any issues.

Scapia. Zero forex markup, unlimited lounge access and LFT

Scapia is no longer issuing credit cards and recently decreased credit limit for most of their cardholders

I would suggest getting a premium card from HDFC , Amex or Axis, such as DCB, Infinia, Atlas, Magnus, platinum travel etc . A Forex card isn't going to make much of a difference, in my opinion, due to the 2-3.5% markup charges. I faced a lot of challenges with Niyo acceptance in Europe, but it worked well in Asian countries.

I don’t have an account with HDFC. Have one with Axis - I was eligible for Magnus but after the recent devaluation - not sure if I should get it. What’s the next best? AmEx?

Im not sure about your spends. Platinum travel from AmEx is worth checking out. HDFC DCB used to have an alumni offer. Look for that as well. Scapia is recently having some issues so not sure about that.

Look at AU Ixigo CC. They are currently offering LTF offers on the card. It has 0 Forex markup and also gives you monthly discounts on travels and accommodations when booked through their Ixigo.

There was a recent RBI ban. Any idea on that?

I've RBL WORLD SAFARI credit card, works flawlessly in both offline machines and online overseas at 0% markup but also 0 rewards, plus there some other benefits too.

Don't bother with tech companies credit card or alternatives, have had bad experience with niyo, as these rely on other bank which treats these app user as 3rd tier citizens and negligible support, directly get best credit card from a proper traditional bank, if you're eligible for HDFC infina try for it net net high reward on foreign txn also.

Use a forex card , works seamlessly. Just keep a credit card for emergencies. It should be a VISA card, if you want any suggestions you can try Axis Samsung card. It has high charges but high reward as well for international transactions so it's kind of no charge card.

Okay, thanks. I will check it out.
