Are we a slave to western countries?

There was time when western countries colonized and looted our wealth and lived a lavish lifestyle in developed economy with infrastructure made with our wealth and today they are looting our time. While we work extra hours ( 10-12 hours) 5-6 days a week at the same time westerners sign off as soon as thier working hours completes. They relax and have family timw while we carry thier workload.

No, we're not slaves. You can leave the software field, and can stop working for western companies and clients.

Then you can go and work in other fields for local Indian companies, institutions, and banks, etc., who also happen to make their employees work for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, around the year. 😂

So either way - it's a Hobson's choice 😜

Okay, so it is best to leave this country. Noted, will do. 👍

I mean, our country, govt and economy is not at all helping, no social security, no local or govt jobs so it's obvious to work for western countries cuz of whom we come out of poverty line. If I'm given a chance I'll throw my passport and relocate the first chance I get.

very lame take... pro'lly the reason we couldn't develop any significant software product ... We are just eager to leave the country

We are more slaves to corrupt politicians and beareuocracy than western countries. Our own people keep us poor and away from facilities so we depend more on these western countries by serving them

I have seen reverse of this. I joined under a US based manager and I kinda hadn’t interacted with a lot of US citizens earlier so I also had this preconceived notion that americans would relax a lot, log off ealry, but boi was I surprised to learn that my manager works pretty hard and long hours and has to support/ attend meetings across time zone’s etc. Also one time my manager built an initial mvp of a tool which he showed to an Indian based team and they ended up showing it to LT revranding it as they did it😂. From my position feels like Indians work not as enough as they show in terms of visibility, sometimes to get US transfers and then to get EB1A / GC sponsorship.

Damn. I think some people are so driven they let go off of everything else in life. Such people exist everywhere.

What do you expect? Indians don't ever agree and acknowledge that over population is one of the main reasons for lower standard of living.

Those western countries don't have such huge population. India has money, it's just that it's not enough for everyone. Imagine if india only had 20% of current population. The government would focus on investments, defence and betterment of country rather than freebies

Bro, that's completely wrong. That's not how money, GDP, and national wealth works.

India had 1/3 of the current population when my parents were children, and at that time, the total GDP and per capita GDP was far lower than it is now.

Country's wealth is not a fixed number that's divided by the population, so you get poorer. The whole population of India works together, and that together makes the country's GDP.

So over the decades, as India's population has grown, we have become richer overall, due to contribution of more people towards the GDP.

The problem of India is not population, but it is that the development index is low. So all of this current population working are able to generate only the current level of GDP. That needs to be addressed.

If you just reduce the population, we'll not become richer, you'll just reduce the overall GDP, and we overall become poorer, like in my parents' generation.

The "over-population" / "population control" are just dog whistles by bigoted politicians to target the minority communities.

In reality, the birth rate in India has already fallen below the replacement level, so India's population has already started shrinking, instead of growing.

We are slaves to our govt who traded us in place of econmy , corruption and their lavish lifestyle, so to compensate that we have to work hard for westerner, so we can see our selves contracted labour hired by them to work for westerner, By not providing all the necessities a govt should provide and controlling us by not having enough power support and sytem

Yes. The best place to be currently is anywhere but India if you want a fair shot at your future. This place is nothing but an illusion of promise. You know where I am coming from.

What about people in non-IT fields or those working for purely Indian companies? Don’t they also work overtime? And are they even paid as well as IT employees?

The truth is simple — we are not yet as economically strong as developed countries like the US or those in Europe. it’s also about India not having strong employee protection and a healthy work-life balance culture. We keep hyping ourselves with lines like “India is the world’s largest economy” or “fastest-growing GDP,” but honestly, very little of this translates into real improvement in people’s lives.

ZippyPenguin
ZippyPenguin

Very well put. GDP growth benefits are being accumulated at the top rather than benefiting Indians as whole.

We are absolutely slaves of west, people of indian subcontinent have the slave mindset bcz we were occupied for last 200 years. 90% of products we consume are western. The amount of bootlicking our media does of America and Russia shows our position.

FluffyKoala

No one in the world considers Russia as a western country. Heck, most parts of Russia lie further East from India on the world map. 😂

Over the decades, many people in Russia / USSR have dreamt of, and attempted to, defect to the West countries, in search of a better life. And many were executed for trying to do this 😢

Grass is always greener on the other side. I assume from all the comments here you are very young into your career.

Be the change you wish to see in the world... Not just in work but politics, social reforms, literature etc... If you open your eyes there are plenty of things happening within India. We are a developing country, Obviously you can't have the salary americans give you, you have to be okay with an Indian salary. Ultimately it's a personal question, do you wish to hear the same question from again in the future from the youth or will you do something abt it.
