Am I being an idiot for wanting to quit? (Lowkey Vent, maybe)
I work with this company run by this middle aged Indian businessman. I get paid 1.5L a month, which is decent. I have 100% remote work.
When I initially joined, he wanted me to download Timechamp or something on my personal device. Luckily, before joining, I'd confirmed I will not be subject to any sort of monitoring and after much back and forth, he settled for me messaging him everyday in the morning and when I'm clocking out in the evening.
I've only been with them a few months, and I knew this before joining too, but he's very old school and works like that (literally asked me "are you looking for work life balance or are you hard working" before I joined). While the work hours haven't been super crazy (Yes, I've responded to messages and attended meetings at 10 - 11pm, but that's something I'm okay with) but the whole clocking in and out and trust issue thing I wasn't fond of.
Lately, he'd given me an absurdly high designation (think President) and was constantly after me to update it on LinkedIn after asking me not to disclose my affiliation with the company publicly (possibly because I was on an unofficial probation). Lately, for a couple of tasks, he's been getting a little... Passive aggressive bordering on aggressive. Example (absurd, I know, but bhavnaye samjho):
I'm hired for maintenance. He's asked me to find a janitor from Kenya. I have no connections in Kenya, I tell him so. He asks me if I can do it or if he should handle it. I tell him to give me some time, I'll get back to him. I find him 2 agencies in India who will charge us the money and it'll be their headache to make sure the Kenyan janitor comes and cleans the place. He is not happy. He wants to do it "in house" and wants me to find a Kenyan janitor directly. Again he asks me if I can do it or should he do it. I tell him the most I can do is find some options online and give him a list but I can not verify their authenticity, so if he has c (continued in comments)

This looks too complex for me. Just wanna say if u are having second thoughts and u can find a better place then just leave

I think I'm going to...
I know, my bad for the confusing train of thought! Basically, I think what I actually want to know... Am I just being touchy or extra snowflakey or is this something actually bad/toxic?

It is bad and toxic if such expectations to find "Kenyan janitors" weren't a part of the original contract.

I always vibe check the people interviewing me to judge what kind of company I'll be joining. Cannot work for even 2x my salary with uncle folks

So if he has connections that can get him reliable Kenyan janitors, he should go ahead and get a few names. He responds with - "then what will you do? Why I hire you?"
Point to note - he has previously hired a Kenyan janitor like this AND it didn't turn into a good experience for him, apparently
I told him I'll do my best and he said - Yes. Find me a Kenyan janitor.
Now, I kinda find this absurd. I'm aware as compared to some other toxic workplaces people talk of, this is gold, but I have been feeling uneasy and want to quit.
I'm sure I'll find something new in a month or two max. I am 25 and live with my family, so have no expenses or liabilities at all

Ok but why does he need a janitor this badly ?
If I were you, I'd have left.

Just in case you couldn't tell, janitor isn't really a janitor, if I mention the real thing, it'll be WAY TOO case specific and SUPER easily identifiable
Basically, the government has mandated the appointment of a janitor

Oh yeah mate I got that. But if it's this important should he do it himself?

Leave!
From personal experience I can tell you that it's only going downhill from here. Passive aggressive behaviour is just a trailer for what's coming up.
There are a lot of remote legal jobs available on LinkedIn jobs and other websites (can share them with you). Please start applying to jobs aggressively 💪

As long as you are working, you need to suck and do it. Either it’s here or elsewhere. It’s same story.
