A bad manager will reduce your quality of life

I used to think people who quit over "bad vibes" were dramatic. Then I met my current manager.

It's not even the work pressure anymore. It's the anxiety that just sits there. Phone buzzes at 10:30 PM and I already know it's him. "Update on this?" "9 AM call tomorrow."

Like dude, leave me alone.

Worst part isn't the yelling. It's the other shit. I finish something on time? "Could've been better." I take sick leave? "Team's struggling without you." I stay late? Nothing. Radio silence.

Stopped going to gym. Ordering Swiggy at midnight. Snapped at my mom yesterday. That's when it hit me - this job's making me an asshole.

My friends earn way less but they're chilling. They go on trips, they sleep properly. I'm checking emails Sunday night feeling sick about Monday standup.

Everyone's running after CTC and brand names. Nobody talks about the therapy you'll need later or how this shit literally ages you.

If you're crying in the bathroom at work, that's it. That's the sign.

Your manager matters more than your company. More than the money. More than whatever fancy shit is on your resume.

I'm out. Applying everywhere. Some things aren't worth it.

I have been lucky to get good managers and creamy work in more than a decade. So I'm just curious to know 3 things from all oppressed folks.

Size of organisation. Have you ever confronted your manager ? What will/has happened if you confronted your manager or disobeyed?

Okay, so is it safe to assume that if you retaliate you are not fired immediately even in small companies ?

Damn! I can relate to this… Deloitte’s work culture is too toxic

Exactly! Work life balance is something that is more valuable than few extra bucks. Fortunately, the Genz and upcoming generations are already trying to bring a change to the work culture.

There is no such thing as Genz bringing change.

Unless you are privileged everyone slogs.

I have seen interns in the neighbouring teams talking about sitting till 8.00 PM.

No matter which generation it is unless your family has a financial cushion, people will slog.

Had this absolute dipshit of a team lead in one of my previous companies. Our team had a churn rate of 1 employee every 6 months purely because of him. Even if you are in a good company, if you have a dipshit lead/manager it will end up ruining your life

Same happened at my workplace, still that one people remain unaffected.
Getting out of such environment is very much required to keep the sanity.

Yoe? And tech stack. Also would like giving the name of the company? So we know toxic managers exist in big companies as well..

Also how are you going to judge a manager now? I have been in the same situation and honestly it sucks. I am wishing you all the best.

Was reading about similar stuff regarding wlb and burnout

The thing is you need to define what healthy boundaries look like. I assume that you didnt learned it earlier and now learning it the hard way

But stop work at a fixed time everyday. Stop email whatsapp on ur personal phone. There will be always urgent things which management gives — the reward is micro silence when you do it on time and loud voices when you can’t
The best is to recognize how other team mates function and look for patterns

Best is start looking for other jobs as well and if you can’t then Boundaries my man.

I see people who have boundaries are more respected than the one who are crossing and pushing it daily. Maybe we should learn how to prioritise our life well.
